why is it important to have dreams?
In the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, it is important to have dreams because dreams can give people hope. In chapter three, when George and Lennie are laying in their beds after a long day of work and thinking about their dream of owning a farm"They all sat still, all bemused by the beauty of the thing, each mind was popped into the future when this lovely thing come about"(60). From the quote one can see that the idea of the future makes George and Lennie excited and hopeful that one day their dreams could become a reality. One can draw that the dreams are important because it inspires one to become more optimistic about the life ahead of them. This is important because when one is hopeful , one can have more of a drive to want to succeed in life. The characters George and Lennie now see themselves having a future and being happy because of dreams. In addition, when George and Lennie are talking with Candy about their dream to own a farm and have vegetables and rabbits, "They fell into silence. They looked at one another, amazed this thing they had never really believed in was coming true"(60). From this quote in chapter three, it is clear to see that dreams can give people hope to believe in oneself to achieve greatness. Hope is important to have because it can act as a drive to wanting to reach a goal. Having dreams allows one to have goals and hope allows one to see them reaching and achieving that goal.
