jury paragraph for persuasive argument project

After reviewing evidence from both sides, my choice of a member of the jury to the question: should we have standardized testing is no there should not be standardized testing. Although the pro side provided great pieces of evidence that was very convincing, the con side had a better analysis to the evidence they provided. The con side argued that students struggle to face the stress that tests provide. In the presentation they provided evidence of kids have severe anxiety disorder, and having it potentially led to vomiting as well as impacting kids emotions towards themselves in a negative way. One piece of evidence that was very impactful to the argument they made was that Stanford's exam booklet provides instructions of what to do in case a child vomits during the test. From this it is clear to see that the creators of the exam are well aware of what pressures they put on kids. Although the pro side made valid points such as testing challenges students in a healthy way, the con side's argument of it being too much for kids can handle I felt was more impactful. In the presentation it stated that kids were going to seek help for their anxiety they have due standardized testing high expectations and pressures it puts on kids.  Also in the presentation the con side argued that it takes up too much time in class. Since teachers spend 30% of work time on test related tasks, it eventually led to schools cutting back on subjects such as art, music, and foreign languages since there are no standardized tests for these subjects. By having electives cut from a child's schedule it can impact them in a negative way since classes such as art and music provide important skills and lessons for kids to use later in life. I agree with the pro side in that encouraging kids to work harder can be a good thing and that global competition makes kids want to try harder in order to get a good score on the world wide test exam but with it taking up too much time to prepare for it led to negative consequences in students mentally as well as in their schedule. he cons side's compelling arguments led me to favor their side over the pro's side
